Winter Activities

Skiing, boarding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing, sleigh riders, ice skating, and more.

Obviously most winter activities revolve around the fantastic powder that falls from the sky. World-class skiers and boarders flock to Crested Butte, which is about a half hour ride from Gunnison. We are also close to Monarch Mountain, another alpine haven.

Summer Activities

Whitewater rafting, wind surfing, rock climbing, tennis, biking, hiking, fly fishing, Jeep touring, golf, horse back riding.

Summer activities revolve around the two million acres of pristine wilderness that surround us. People enjoy driving the West Elk Loop, which provides scenic views of this awesome, untouched land. Many people come back reporting sightings to deer, elk, coyotes, bears, big horn sheep, and bald eagles.

There is great fishing, boating, hiking, and biking in the Curecanti National Recreation Area. The Black Canyon of Gunnison provides sweeping view of the landscape, terrific bird watching, and outstanding hiking and horseback trips.

In the Gunnison River Valley, experience some of the best fly fishing or whitewater rafting. Or spend an afternoon pontooning on the Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Golfers, visit Dos Rios Golf Club or the beautiful Club at Crested Butte.

Many people also come to explore the more than 20 ghost towns that exist in Gunnison County.

Western State College

We are a stones throw (almost literally) from Western State College, so if you're visiting the university, please consider a stay with us.

Hunting

Many visitors come to Gunnison/Crested Butte for the great big game hunting. For those unfamiliar with the area, there are many outstanding outfitters that can help you prepare your adventure. Hunters can obtain licenses from the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Available licenses include: deer, elk, pronghorn, bear, and moose.
